Mega aerospace merger is taking flight
United Technologies and Raytheon announced that they will be combining in one of the biggest corporate mergers of the year. The new company, Raytheon Technologies Corporation, would have an annual revenue of $74 billion and will focus on the aerospace industry, continuing to supply Boeing, Airbus, and others.
Given the nature of the two companies and the industry’s growing interest in drone technology, the new company is highly likely to be active in the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles sector. As the parent company of Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney, United Technologies has several patents directed to the hardware of drones, while Raytheon has numerous patents directed to using drones for security and defense purposes. Their IP portfolios accurately reflect the strengths of each of the companies, and the merger can be expected to produce even more patent activity in the future.
