Toyota Finally Unveils Its First EV
Toyota unveiled its first EV, the C-HR, at April’s Shanghai Motor Show. While Toyota pioneered electrification of vehicles with the Prius and many of Toyota’s models are hybrids, this is their first full-electric vehicle. Toyota’s first wireless vehicle charging system with a bidirectional DC/DC converter patent application was also just published. Toyota’s competitors include the Kia Soul EV, the BMW i3, the Nissan Leaf, the Volkswagen e-Golf, the Tesla Model 3, the Hyundai Ioniq EV, the Tesla Model S, and the Chevrolet Volt EV. Only Tesla, Hyunday, Kia, and Volkswagen have active patent portfolios in the bidirecitional DC/DC converter space.
