Motiv Acquired, Pivoted from Sleep to Security

Silicon Valley-based startup Motiv has been acquired by Proxy, a company that specializes in digital identity technologies. Motiv’s smart ring boasts fitness and sleep tracking technologies as well as the ability to be used in two-factor authentication for email, social media, and online shopping accounts. Proxy hopes to expand on this functionality by incorporating biometric data such as heart rate, sleep patterns, and health habits, which the ring already tracks, into a unique user profile that can be used for secure access to personal information. Motiv is discontinuing sales of its products as a result of the acquisition, but Proxy filed a patent for improving biometric credentials that included mention of a smart ring wearable in late 2019.
