LG Moves Smartly Into Drone Market
With a number of recent patent application published by the USPTO, LG appears to be making a move into the drone business, but doing it “smartly” by incorporating artificial intelligence into its drone control software. LG has had more than 50 patent applications published so far in 2020, dwarfing the next largest publisher, DJI. From the patent applications, it appears LG is positioning itself to take advantage of coming 5G wireless networks to invest heavily in the increased capabilities 5G compatible drones will have. LG has also recently entered into partnerships with KDDI to leverage drone performance to its full potential, and with Doosan Mobility to further develop hydrogen fuel cell-powered drones capable of flight times much longer than is possible with a typical battery-powered drone.
