Amazon Want’s Something More From Its Users: Their Faces

A recent patent application publication from Amazon sheds some light on how the tech giant can use biometric data to authenticate users.

The system would make use of the camera on a user’s computer to capture image data. From this image data, Amazon is able to identify whether or not a user is present in the image data, as well as determine the exact identity of the user. In addition, the system can detect if the user in the image data is actually looking at their computer screen. Based on this information, the system is able to determine what information should be displayed on the user’s screen.

While Amazon is isn’t the top patent holder in the AI Cybersecurity sector, a position currently held by IBM with over 300 relevant patent documents, this represents Amazon’s 67th relevant patent document and demonstrates a continued commitment to cybersecurity and collecting personal data.
