Tesla speeds up parts production; hits production goal
Tesla unexpectedly topped its sales for the 2nd quarter of 2019, with 95,200 models sold. This is a marked increase from lower sales in Q1 – just 63,000. After an underwhelming production rate in 2017 and 2018, this jump came as a surprise. This can likely be attributed to the recent in-sourcing for specific design and some components. In fact, 95% of parts for the Tesla Model 3 were manufactured domestically. In addition, new and innovative production methods such as high-speed blow forming for metal parts (as opposed to cold-forming or superplastic forming) could help save time and money, making for a fractionally quicker construction. However, only more time will tell if these lightning-speed fabricated cars will continue to accumulate their stellar customer satisfaction results – as well as keep the company’s momentum strong following this rebound.
