Pixelworks Accounts for Crosstalk
Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) displays are a common means of displaying a wide gamut color scheme. Where Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) once dominated the market, OLEDs have quickly become mainstream. This is in part due the the similar active matrix architecture shared by OLEDs and LCDs.
However, a recurring issue known as “crosstalk” can impact the display capabilities of OLEDs, decreasing overall color accuracy of a display. Crosstalk results when the coupling between the traces connecting the display driver to the pixels malfunctions or due to interactions between color subpixels. Because of this, OLED displays require a larger number of color measurements than an LCD for accurate results during calibration.
Pixelworks has a solution to this. A recently issued patent describes a system for panel calibration using multiple, non-linear models. The system generates two non-linear models for each color component, calculates a crosstalk gain using these models, and applying the crosstalk gain to the color components. This results in an improved display, as the image compensates for crosstalk.
Pixelworks is the 4th largest patent holder in the Multi-Primary Color sector, with over 50 relevant patent documents.
