Japan expands its no-fly zone for drones

Japan recently began legislative steps to tighten its drone regulations. Currently, drones are forbidden from flying over major political buildings and nuclear facilities. The new bill would prohibit drones near military bases, the Rugby World Cup held in September this year, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Many companies have prepared for similar restrictions, as US intellectual property activity from the likes of AT&T, DJI, and IBM is largely related to implementing flight-restriction regions for UAVs. These patents may be a factor in determining their future business in Japan.
