America gets its first Wing
On 4/23/2019, the Federal Aviation Administration granted Wing, Alphabet‘s drone delivery subsidiary, the first approval to use drones to deliver packages commercially in the US. Having tested in Canberra, Australia, Wing will later be launching its drone delivery program in Virginia, where the company expects to work with local businesses. Wing has a growing patent portfolio with a focus on delivery, navigation, and charging, indicating not only its worthiness of the FAA’s first approval of its kind, but also its preparedness to take on the unique challenges of drone delivery in the US.
