Australia pays for American aerospace once again

Northrop Grumman won a $65 million contract for the manufacture, delivery, and support of three MQ-4C Triton drones for the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The Triton is designed to provide aerial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance over ocean and coastal regions. The American aerospace company has a diverse set of patents in the UAV sector, relating to technologies such as VTOL and machine vision for swarm guidance. Notably, Northrop Grumman‘s security- and defense-related drone patent activity stalled approximately a decade ago, leaving the question of what the company’s strategy for exclusivity will be moving forward.
