Seth Rogen is Bringing Weed to California
This week in Cannabis: Seth Rogen brings weed to California, a UPS Vape Ban, and the 16th state to legalize cannabis for adult use.
What may come as no surprise, Houseplant, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldeberg’s cannabis and lifestyle brand, is coming to California. Interestingly, Houseplant is licensed by Canopy Growth in Canada, but Canopy Growth is not participating in Houseplant’s US move. Houseplant appears to be focused on selling different strains and has provided zero indication of whether it will offer pre-rolled joints, capsules, or Houseplant infused drinks that are currently offered in Canada. Given the size and diversity of the Cannabis sector, the activity of Canopy Growth (including its own line of CBD drinks) and with zero patents of its own (as shown in the Patent Forecast® below), Houseplant should obtain a new licensee partner or it may be putting itself at risk.
Maybe Houseplant and Canopy Growth will create a US partnership given their history and to compete with the Aphria and Tilray merger?
With Virginia likely being the 16th state to legalize cannabis for adult use, keeping up with the explosive growth of the Cannabis Patent Forecast® is becoming increasingly important. Subscribe to the Patent Forecast® so you don’t miss all the new activity in the Cannabis sector.
