Amazon Leads in Home Security Drones. Should Alarm and Qualcomm Assert?
Home surveillance drones are coming of age and major home security system providers are gearing up to provide them, but only Amazon is delivering. Amazon also has multiple patents to protect the drone. Alarm.com appears committed but running behind: Although it partnered with Qualcomm in 2017 to develop security drones and is continuing to file patents, it only acquired Baltic UAV maker Airdog in May 2020 and there is no recent mention of a home security drone on its website. With Amazon alone in the home drone market and their product nowhere in sight, will Alarm.com and Qualcomm have to assert their combination patent portfolio to leverage their drone into the market once it appears?
