Samsung is Improving the Display Quality in LCDs
Samsung’s latest issued patent for the sector relates to the display quality in liquid crystal display (LCD) devices. The patented device analyzes a data voltage and verifies whether it corresponds to a mixed color pattern (magenta, cyan, and yellow) or a general color pattern (red, green, blue).
If the detected color pattern is a mixed color pattern, the polarity of the data voltage is inverted. By inverting the polarity of the data voltage for mixed color patterns, display quality degradation, typically occurring due to insufficient charging rates, is greatly reduced.
With Samsung announcing an investment of around $11 billion into Quantum Dot (QD) displays over the next five years, the staying power of this new LCD device may be short-lived. Following Samsung’s suspension of one of its LCD production lines in South Korea last month, citing a falling demand for LCD panels, this new LCD device may represent an effort to remain a market leader for LCD displays before the industry moves towards newer technologies.
