Raytheon succeeds in zapping drones

Raytheon announced that its advanced high power microwave (HPM) and mobile high energy laser (HEL) systems engaged and defeated multiple UAS targets during a US Air Force demonstration. The defense contractor is currently under a $2 million contract with the US Air Force Research Laboratory to develop counter-UAV technologies. Raytheon has already filed several patent applications directed to countering UAVs using LIDAR and other forms of radiation. Given that the threat of drones is only increasing, Raytheon‘s patent portfolio can be expected to continue bringing value.
