5G network and 1 million drones
Verizon announced on 3/13/2019 that it will launch its 5G Ultra Wideband Network in Chicago and Minneapolis on 4/11/2019. The company had previously reported that it plans to bring 5G technology to 30 US cities by the end of 2019. The president of Skyward, a drone operation subsidiary of Verizon, stated that Verizon is committed to being the first to connect 1 million drone flights on its 5G network. Although 5G mobile network technology is still in its early stages, this announcement signals that major developments and greater demand for drones are underway.
