New law for fighting fire with drones
On 3/12/2019, President Trump signed the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. Sec. 1114, titled “Wildfire Technology Modernization,” states that state and federal agencies will cooperate to use unmanned aerial systems for developing real-time maps of wildland fires, which can be used by firefighters. Although the law only discusses the use of UASs for countering wildfires, it suggests the growing need for drones in other applications as well, such as rescue and agriculture.
