Kyndryl Teams Up with Cisco

Kyndryl and Cisco are no strangers to the edge computing Patent Forecast® sector, Cisco holds the second most patents in the sector with a total of one hundred and seven (107) patent assets. Kyndryl’s patent activity in the edge computing sector is not so impressive with only three (3) patent assets in the edge computing sector, but that was enough to spark a partnership with Lenovo to deliver edge computing services to its clients. Under this new partnership Cisco will provide its well established platforms in conjunction with Kyndryl managed services to deliver a product that streamlines the management of hybrid cloud and network computing environment.

Cisco is one of the founding fathers of edge computing but is constantly trailing behind Intel, the top dog in the edge computing sector, but collaborations like this one are what builds reputation and patent activity for Cisco. As for Kyndryl, it has not focused on patent activity recently and this is problematic as patent activity is the easiest way for Kyndryl to differentiate itself from other IT infrastructure services providers. This is a great opportunity for Kyndryl to get to collaborate with an expert in the edge computing sector, and because of this Patent Forecast® predicts that Kyndryl will ramp up its patent activity in the edge computing sector to gain an advantage over its coopetitors. Patent Forecast® suggests that Kyndryl’s competitor Cognizant will partner with Intel to ramp up its patent activity in the edge computing sector and get an advantage over Kyndryl and Cisco’s partnership.
