Maxis Picks HP As Edge Computing Partner

In a repeating theme of the Patent Forecast® Edge Computing sector a company who has the edge computing resources has called upon a telecommunications company to help roll out a multi-access edge computing platform. On April 13, 2022, Maxis, a telecommunications company, announced a partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HP) to bring multi-access edge computing to their clients in Malaysia. This partnership is very similar to a recent partnership that was covered in a previous Patent Forecast® insight in which Dell Technologies partnered up with SK Telecommunications to roll out multi-access edge computing to their clients in South Korea.

Maxis’ decision of choosing HP as their edge computing partner was most likely determined by HP’s patent activity in the Patent Forecast® Edge Computing sector, HP currently has a respectable number of twenty (20) patent assets in the edge computing sector. Besides their patent activity, HP has showed their interest in edge computing through their acquisitions over the years such as their acquisition of big data startup MapR and cloud security company Scytale.

With keeping these constant partnerships between telecommunications companies and computing companies in mind and through analyzing the patent data, Patent Forecast® still predicts that Ericsson and Intel will form an expanded partnership to provide multi-access edge computing as a service to their clients.
