Snap Buys into Mind-control
Snap has acquired NextMind, a Paris-based startup with a controller that utilizes brain signals to move images on a PC interface. The deal terms were not disclosed. NextMind has a $399 dev kit that actually works well, making BMI development accessible to everyone. Expect to see a BMI products explosion soon, if Snap doesn’t bottle up the technology.
Snap is behind the curve on development, with only two patents in the BMI space. NextMind doesn’t have any US patent applications published or issued yet, but it does have nine (9) International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications published. Those could multiply into many US patents, depending on how fundamental the technology is.
NextMind was only founded in 2017, so this is a quick payoff for the team. Must have been a really nice offer from Snap.
