Genius Sports and Pixellot Partnership Produces Great Results

Three weeks ago in an insight, Patent Forecast® discussed the expanded partnership between Genius Sports and Pixellot and predicted the potential impact their partnership could produce. Less than a month after that insight was published, both Genius Sports and Pixellot have gained valuable clients as predicted in that insight. On April 7, 2022, Pixellot announced a partnership with the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA), through this partnership Pixellot will provide transformative video streaming, data capture, and analysis to the EIHA. This is a big win for Pixellot as they don’t have that much experience with ice hockey clients since most of its’ clients consist of soccer organizations. Another win for Pixellot was on April 8, 2022, it announced a new partnership with the Mina Cup, a soccer league in the United Arab Emirates. This partnership is right up Pixellot’s wheelhouse since soccer broadcasting and analysis is its forte.

As for Genius Sports, it announced its new partnership with Liga MX’s Club Necaxa on April 8, 2022, in this partnership Genius Sports will provide video tracking, analytics, and data tools to Club Necaxa. This partnership was most likely created since Pixellot already had a partnership with Liga MX and through Pixellot and Genius Sports’ expanded partnership Genius Sports was able to reach new clientele within Liga MX. Genius Sports and Pixellot’s expanded partnership on March 21, 2022, is another reminder of how beneficial collaboration within a sector can be for the parties involved.

It is important to remember that Pixellot and Genius Sports both had a respectable amount of patent activity in the Patent Forecast® Sports Analytics sector prior to their expanded partnership. Pixellot currently has nine (9) patent assets in the sports analytics sector while Genius Sports has thirty-five (35). Holding multiple good quality patent assets is a key factor in earning the credibility necessary to become part of a partnership. For this reason, if Veo, one of Pixellot’s competitors, wants to enter a partnership that will take their revenue to the next level, then it will have to start producing patent assets. Veo currently has one (1) patent asset in the sports analytics sector which is not nearly enough to build up the credibility necessary for a partnership. As mentioned in a previous insight if Veo can produce more patent activity then will likely earn a partnership with Adidas.
