Diamond Kinetics Strikes A Deal With the MLB
On April 5, 2022, Diamond Kinetics announced its new partnership with the MLB in which Diamond Kinetics was established as the official provider of bat sensor technology for the MLB and the MLB became an equity stake holder in Diamond Kinetics. This partnership is a huge achievement for Diamond Kinetics considering they only have two (2) patent assets in the sports analytics sector. It is an even bigger achievement for Diamond Kinetics when you consider its competitor, and previous official provider of bat sensor technology for the MLB, Blast Motion has sixty-four (64) patent assets in the sports analytics sector. This may indicate that although Blast Motion has more patent assets than Diamond Kinetics, Diamond Kinetics offers a higher quality product, and this seems to be the case as Diamond Kinetics puts an emphasis on gamification of baseball training through its connected smartphone app that allows users to track their stats. Through this partnership, Diamond Kinetics will be considered the MLB’s trusted youth development platform and will likely bring in a new younger audience to the sport through its gamified platform, something the league has been struggling to do.
Although Blast Motion is no longer the MLB’s official bat sensor technology partner, it did manage to extend its partnership with the Cape Cod Baseball League on April 7, 2022. This is an important win for Blast Motion as it gives them the opportunity to research and develop the technology necessary to compete with Diamond Kinetics. Taking into consideration that Blast Motion currently has sixty-two (62) more patent assets than Diamond Kinetics in the sports analytics sector, Patent Forecast® predicts Diamond Kinetics will win a partnership with the NCAA as the official provider of bat sensor technology for NCAA softball and baseball.
