Twin Rivers enters the Biodegradable Packaging Patent Forecast

Twin Rivers Paper Company has entered the Biodegradable Packaging Patent Forecast®! Its patent application, published in early September 2021, is directed towards recyclable and absorbent food packaging. The technology disclosed, an oil and grease resistant material, appears similar to Twin Rivers’ branded EcoBarrier – a fluorochemical-free grease-resistant food packaging.  It is pretty surprising for this to be the first patent activity for Twin Rivers in the sector because Twin Rivers offers numerous environmentally friendly paper solutions.

Notably, the patent application provides an image of a “Wrap-Kin” and the specification describes addressing the problems of sticky or oily foods requiring the use of multiple disposable napkins. Therefore, even though there are some similarities between the patent application and EcoBarrier, there may be another product solution currently in research and development at Twin Rivers Paper Company. Furthermore, Twin Rivers Paper Company appears seriously interested in pursuing the technology disclosed in this application as it also filed a related national stage application in Canada. This is not a total surprise as Twin Rivers is on the border of the US and Canada, but it still required a decent financial investment from Twin Rivers.

Tune in to the Biodegradable Packaging Patent Forecast® to see if Twin Rivers steps up its game in the future or if it decides to continue to put all of its eggs in one basket.
