Lancium’s Niche Patents Create Client
The Demand Response sector may appear to be dominated by several big players – Causam, ENEL, and Johnson Controls – but there are niches available for the smaller players. Lancium, whose software lets data centers ramp their power consumption up or down in as little as five seconds, started its Demand-Response portfolio in 2019 with a successful prioritized examination application. Since then, Lancium has had seven more Demand-Response patents issue. These patents were used to bring Layer1 to licensing. Layer1, who builds turnkey, fully-integrated Bitcoin mining data centers, settled litigation with Lancium in March 2021, with Layer1 licensing Lancium’s intellectual property and Lancium providing software and services to Layer1. Layer1 has no published patents assets.
